Your Dollar Your Vote

Economic resistance uses our collective buying power to reclaim democracy for the people. It can also help us make buying decisions that better align with our values.

Our Goal

Help everyday Americans reclaim democracy from the control of the wealthy and powerful.

How To Get There

Resist

Resist – Break the cycle of unthinking support to large mega-corporations. Stop automatically purchasing and consider new sources and vendors. Make better choices.

Reward

Reward – Give your business to small businesses, nonprofits and companies that are environmentally friendly and/or promote progressive values. Buy local whenever possible.

Reduce

Reduce – Reuse, restore and recycle. Buy less, save more and protect the environment.

Why We Created Your Dollar Your Vote

  • Years of economic and political policies have increased wealth inequality to the highest point in history. A new oligarchy — think Amazon/Bezos, Meta/Zuckerberg, Tesla/Musk — has arisen that has unprecedented power, yet it is still reliant on our collective spending and support.
  • This gives us economic leverage if we know how to use it. We have seen it work time and time again. Actions change things. That applies here as well.
  • We wanted to make it easier to find the information that you need to make buying decisions that are better aligned with your values and help you feel like you are making a difference. Do a little, do a lot. Every action counts.

How Your Dollar Your Vote Can Help You

  • We collected information from a wide variety of sources to provide you with insights on corporate activities and spending. There are many good sources out there. We wanted to make it easier for you to find some of them.
  • Sign up for our Catalyst blog to keep up with national actions of economic resistance that need your attention.

Resist and Unsubscribe

Scott Galloway developed an enormously successful campaign that urges people to unsubscribe from products delivered by tech companies with outsized influence on the national economy and the Administration. Resist and Unsubscribe guides people to stop automatic spending on services that support the oligarchy.

Shop Local

For every $100 spent at a locally owned business, $43 remains in the local economy — more than three times the $13 that stays from purchases at a non-locally owned business, according to Local First Arizona.

Reduce Your Spending

Save yourself some money and help the environment via fewer shopping trips, deliveries and packages, and less products and packaging to dispose of later.

Give resale shopping a try. You can often find great buys while supporting a good cause and the local economy. Buying resale also keeps more items out of landfills. Explore vintage stores in Scottsdale

Resist vs. Reward

Resist

  • Oligarchs, e.g. the ultra-wealthy ‘elite’ who leverage their wealth to influence our politics and media to the benefit of themselves and their corporations.
  • Other corporations and their leaders that lobby governments and contribute heavily to candidates and causes not serve the public interest but to increase their own wealth.
  • Companies and institutions that have acquiesced to the demands of the current Administration, such as turning back DEI policies, or sharing our personal data.
  • Companies that assist ICE/Border Patrol and/or an illegal war.
  • Companies whose business practices and policies hurt their employees (e.g. fight unionization) or the public (e.g. hide adverse environmental effects of their products or lobby to reduce government oversight).

Reward

  • Small business owners, especially those who are actively involved in their community, treat their employees fairly and support progressive values.
  • Businesses of all sizes whose products, services and business models serve to promote progressive values and the social good such as educational tools, environmentally-friendly products and alternative energy sources.
  • Non-profit companies that sell or loan products, such as public libraries, foundations with resale shops, or museum gift stores.
  • B (Benefit) Corporations, which are businesses that meet rigorous social, environmental, and governance standards.
  • Businesses or business leader(s) whose political contributions reflect progressive values.
